U.S. Army gives Lockheed deal for reconfigurable trainer
August 27, 2008
The U.S. Army has given Lockheed Martin a $37 million one-year contract to build a Close Combat Tactical Trainer Reconfigurable Vehicle Simulator and a Reconfigurable Vehicle Tactical Trainer that will enable soldiers to improve their abilities to overcome adaptive enemies.
The deal has three options that, if exercised, could push the value of the award to $147 million.
Lockheed Martin calls the combined trainer the RVTT/CCTT-RVS. The CCTT itself evolved from the first-generation Virtual Combat Convoy Trainer that provided convoy training for drivers, gunners, communicators and decision-makers tailored to the unique requirements of their position, tactical circumstances and unit or service standard operating procedure. The CCTT-RVS upgrade has moved convoy and reconnaissance training into the Army institutional and program mainstream and is designed to include years of sustainment efficiencies and lessons learned.
CCTT-RVS also provides convoy training on a wide variety of wheeled vehicles, including multiple variants of the High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle and Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck.
The RVTT/CCTT-RVS integrates with the entire family of CCTT simulators and provides a platform to integrate enhanced simulations, such as dismounted infantry capability. Others benefits include the use of geo-specific terrain databases that realistically represent areas within the current operating environment.
The trainer is also the foundation for the Combat Convoy Simulator, the third-generation convoy trainer being produced by the company for the U.S. Marine Corps.
