Swiss Army buys Swedish vehicle trainers
November 08, 2004
The Swiss Army has ordered an unspecified number of chassis and turret trainers for the CV90 AIFV Armored Infantry Fighting Vehicle (AIFV)
BAE Systems Land Systems Hagglunds division in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, will supply the trainers, which will be used both for crew training, for driving, gunnery, observation, reconnaissance and command skills, and for technical/maintenance staff training.
The order is for an unspecified mix of armored vehicle and command post variants of the CV90 vehicle.

Armasuisse, the Swiss defense procurement agency, initially ordered a total of 186 CV90s, which are known as AIFV 2000s in Swiss service, in 2000 from the then Hagglunds Vehicle company. The original order, for 154 AIFVs and 32 command post versions, plus spares, training and technical publications, was worth approximately 4 billion Swedish Kroner ($570 million). The value of the additional contract for trainers has not been revealed.
Land Systems Hagglunds is a division of BAE Systems Land Systems business, created in September 2004 by merging RO Defence and Alvis.
